The story behind the quote: “You’re only as good as you think you are.”
I feel I am much better at articulating my wild and free thoughts on paper rather than vocalizing them, especially on the fly, or in the moment. I often need time to reflect and think about something before casting meaningful words. That’s not to say I haven’t been a firecracker at the mouth at times, sometimes for good reason, sometimes for not. I have flaws, just like you, you know. I am learning, and I am growing – mistakes will be made; it’s part of being human.
But when I write, I am methodical. I choose wisely. Not just the words, but how I say them, along with the tone, and the energy used behind them – the emotion. However, what’s fascinating about words and plays on the idea I have mentioned in my first “Storytime Sunday” post of: “perception is everything,” is that whatever intention I have behind my words, they can still be misinterpreted by your perception of them. Don’t believe me? Watch.
The quote below manifested within my mind many, MANY moons ago (circa 2011):
“You’re only as good as you think you are.”
Pause for a moment and think about that. Notice where your mind went with that idea. Was it positive? Was it negative? How do you make sense of it?
“You’re only as good as you think you are.”
When I had the first thought of this quote – which is mine in physical reality, by the way, from a higher source; it just came to me, inside my head. Isn’t that what an idea is? A free-falling thought?… that happened to splash inside my mind – I felt triggered by it.
What do you mean, “…only as good as you think…”? I pondered on this thought for days. It lingered, sparking a curiosity within me.

I’m sure you’ve heard the idiom: “Glass half full, or glass half empty.” It’s a way of indirectly revealing whether you see things optimistically or pessimistically, in other words, positively or negatively.
What about the phrase: “You can do anything you set your mind to”? It’s a famous quote by Benjamin Franklin, an awe-inspiring one.
In my mind, the two just seemed to mix and concoct: “You’re only as good as you think you are.”
Do you hear that, in your own head, with your own voice, to be harsh or awe-inspiring?
I posted it everywhere in my bios as a reminder to myself to shift my mindset – to remember what direction I’m going in; to remember how powerful my mind is.

It sounds limiting from one perspective. I mean, the word “only” is so pungent. It packs a punch to the gut, for a reason. A wake-up call. A kick in the butt. Because for some odd reason, we respond quickly to negativity. But like I keep saying (to remind you and myself), “perception is everything.”
No one can convince you more than you can. You have the power – the choice. Are you going to be optimistic, or pessimistic? View things as positive, or negative?
No one can make your dreams happen more than you can, but YOU have to believe in yourself. Believe so intensely that it manifests as reality.
Mindset shifting – all the greats do it, regardless of someone in their corner cheering them on, telling them they are the best, because the greats have to believe it for themselves. Regardless of their previous accomplishments, they still will think of themselves as not good enough, having them strive to be more, to be the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time). They dance between the intrusive thoughts of positive and negative. They shift their mindset constantly, becoming aware of the power within their own mind. Sore losers allow those negative thoughts to take over, while the great’s grab the reins for themselves and make a conscious choice – to be the best version of themselves when it counts the most, by thinking they are the greatest. And then it manifests in physical reality, for you to perceive as proof.
The mind is an intangible source of power science still hasn’t been able to prove truly exists in physical reality.
But what’s so fascinating about YOUR mind is that YOU have the choice on what power, what thoughts you hold onto, which ones you want to resonate deep within you, to move you; it’s energy in motion – emotion. Positive and negative energy in motion, once you perceive it and choose.
There are many other words and phrases I use deliberately in a way that I know packs a punch and shows you how wild your mind can be without your control. A sort of dance between negative and positive, positive and negative.
I know you get free-falling thoughts, just like me, that drop in your mind from time to time that maybe you label as negative right off the bat without reflecting on them, without conscious thinking. I encourage you to write these thoughts down, and read them later, at another time. Because we all change our minds from time to time, shifting our mindset. And I am focusing on positive growth with an optimistic mindset even as negativity presents itself, even when I face an uncontrollable setback in life. We can’t control everything in our lives, outside of us, but we certainly can control ourselves and our perception.
In my next post you’ll see keywords and phrases deliberately used with an ambiguous meaning such as: “I’ve connected with LOTS of different people” ; “in states of anxiety and dis-ease” ; “there’s a disconnect that’s difficult to explain, but that’s beside the point” ; “by my voice” ; “I assured her it would be me taking care of her” ; “but, I listened” ; “in my eyes” ; “do my job” ; “all the feelings” ; “helping people see what’s been hidden from them” ; “she became a light in darkness” ; “with the sole intent” ; and “the jig is up”.
I hope you will ponder on these stories, time and time again, as I do. They are messages for us to decipher, and for you to perceive however you choose, negatively or positively.

I met him, the one they look down upon, the one that fell from the sky, I met him.
I saw the fire burning in his eyes.
At first step, it scared me… seeing such power rage within him, seeing such power radiate from his soul.
I saw him in the flesh, in his true form… his soul ablaze with rage, ablaze from love.
He tested me, charged at me with full force. But I stood my ground, I stood in my power. I held my calm gaze against his chaotic blaze. In that powerful fight, I saw him in his true form, and he saw me in mine. But if it wasn’t for his challenge, I would have never realized my full potential, my true form. Without his chaos, I would only know how belittling my calm.
He only scares those who feel inadequate to hold stance. He only defeats those who aren’t brave enough to harness their own power, their full potential.
Because of him, I know my power. Because of him, I know my full potential. Because of him, I know I’m undefeatable.
He told me I would thank him someday. He told me why he chose to fall from the sky… to find the titans of the world. To help them in harnessing their power, their full potential. He sacrificed himself to be the controlled chaos, the controlled arena.
His sacrifice is not in vain, it flows freely within my veins.
I am forever grateful, and he knew I would be after I calmed my own chaos.
